A crowd funding campaign to create a new Craft Garden at Cockpit has exceeded its fundraising target of £15,000. Cockpit makers offered lots of incredible rewards to funders, to help realise our shared vision for the space.
The project will transform an existing inaccessible yard into a welcoming new public garden and front door to Cockpit Deptford. The landscape design and planting plan by Sebastian Cox and Imogen McAndrew features plants used in making - such as willow, flax and madder - and the money raised will cover the cost of landscaping, plants, trees and wooden benches.
Walled yards are an important part of the character of this part of Deptford and our design aims to preserve the garden's distinct walled character while simultaneously opening it up as a place for the whole community to enjoy nature and connect through craft.
